UNDERSTANDING THE WORD – PAYING ATTENTION
April 24, 2020

The Word: Joshua 1: 8(KJV)

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Dig Deeper: Proverbs 4: 20 – 23(KJV)

20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Think about it

GIVING ATTENTION TO THE WORD
I believe that for us to grow the way God wants us to, there must be deliberate, conscious paying attention to God’s word. It simply means there must be personal study time. Spending minimum 45min – 1hr on the word daily will bring clarity unto us in several areas of life.

Our text today drums home the importance of paying attention to God’s word
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

God’s word needs to discussed.
We need to discuss scriptures with our spouse, children, friends and others. What you talk about often you don’t forget.

God’s word needs to be meditated on.
What you think about often, you don’t forget.

There is also the word: ‘observe’ That is where we got the word observation from. In science: to observe is to study closely. It’s one of the things researchers do. They monitor or watch carefully so they can record anything noticed. God wants us to carefully study, observe and pay attention to his words. That is really the secret to making our way prosperous and having good success

Our 2nd text is also powerful:
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

– Again paying attention
– Incline. To incline is to bend or tend towards or be disposed towards. In other words God is saying: be biased, prejudiced towards my words. When someone is sick, they take medicine as prescribed by the doctor. But they need to take the right dosage if not they won’t get well. So God is saying unless you have enough concentration of my word, you may not have enough life and health released unto you.

Do we need to make our way prosperous and successful  and receive Divine healing? Then paying extreme attention to the word is the key. You can’t pay extreme attention just by listening. You have to study personally.

Our memory verse for April 2018
Psalm 119: 130

130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Let’s take a few moment to learn our memory verse for this month by heart. It can be memorised in 2 lines:
Line 1:  The entrance of thy words giveth light;
Line 2: It giveth understanding unto the simple.

Once you say it a few times it will stick.
