LORD TEACH US TO PRAY

The Word: Luke 11: 1(KJV)

1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

Dig Deeper: Luke 11: 2 – 3(KJV)

And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Think about it

LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY
‘one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray,’
A disciple is one who is being taught….
A disciple is one who is being trained….
A disciple is one who is being mentored…

Being taught or mentored can be critical in moving to the next level.
The disciples were mainly uneducated, unschooled men. Some of them were fishermen. Yet Jesus mentored them for over 3yrs. They were unconsciously enrolled in a school of life with Jesus. While with Jesus, they learnt to pray, to relate with the father, to live the life of the supernatural.

Artisans or trades men will sometimes enrol under an apprentice system. This is not a formal school system, nonetheless apprentice are able to effectively learn the trade and flourish in that trade. The disciple were not under a formal school with Jesus, however they were apprentice. A disciple therefore is an apprentice being trained under a master

So the disciples asked Jesus:  Lord, teach us to pray,’

However Jesus has now gone back to heaven but thank God we have the Holy Spirit – the Spirit of prayer, the Spirit of grace, the Spirit of supplication.
The Holy Spirit is Jesus on earth in spirit form. He is unlimited and lives inside of us. So we can ask the Holy Spirit:
Lord, teach us to pray,’

No believer can truly know how to pray properly unless the Holy Spirit teaches him or her how to do so.

Romans 8: 26

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

He is the Spirit of grace and supplication – Zehariah 12:10a. He is the anointing that teaches from within –

1 John 2: 27
But the anointing which ye have received from Him abideth in you, and ye have no need that any man teach you. But as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.

We cant be true disciples unless we are true followers, if we are true, intimate followers, then we must have fellowship. We can’t fellowship without engaging in prayers. And if we must pray, then we must be taught how to pray. If you want to buy a birthday gift for a famous man, you may sometimes ask the wife or someone close on what the best gift may be. Who is the best person to ask how to present prayers to the father except the Holy Ghost? The Holy Spirit know what the father wants and how he wants it. He helps us to pray the right way acceptable to the father
