THE MENTOR
We have said a few things about discipleship. Among many things, we said: A disciple is someone who follows.
– Discipleship is God’s apprenticeship program designed to train God’s children to live like him.
(1 Corinthians 11: 1, John 5: 19, Matthew 5: 48, 1 Corinthians 4: 16, Ephesians 5: 1 – 2)
– Everyone who will be a sustainable leader, mightily used of God will need to enrol in the school of discipleship so as to know God.
– Discipleship is voluntary and conscious – If any man will come after me…., Discipleship is followership that is voluntary, conscious and deliberate.
Why discipleship?
God’s plan is to disciple us to be like him, we are to also disciple other people to become like Christ. So discipleship is a chain program. For discipleship to be effective and successful, the chain must continue.
2 Timothy 2: 2
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
One of the ways God disciples people is to mentor them.
Who is a mentor?
A mentor is someone who:
M: Models, Motivates, Mother
E: Encourage, Empower, Enable
N: Nurture, Navigate
T: Teach, Trustworthy, Transform, Tutor
O: Open minded
R: Relate
A mentor has relevant and useful experience. He / She is ahead, and can see pitfall along our path. A mentor is someone who sees the best of you, who sees your hidden potential. A mentor helps us to release our potential. Jesus is the best mentor ever. We are to emulate and follow him. If we choose to be true followers of Christ then we must get ready for our lives to be transfrome
