CHANGE OF INSTRUCTION: NEW ASSIGNMENT
April 24, 2020

The Word: 1 Kings 17: 1-7(KJV)

And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

Dig Deeper: 1 Kings 17: 7-10(KJV)

And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.10 So he arose and went to Zarephath.

CHANGE OF INSTRUCTION: NEW ASSIGNMENT
So we said to provoke and sustain divine change there is need for:

1 – The right mindset
2 – And Prayers.

Next Level starts from the right mindset. We start to get restless and desire the change that God wants to give us. We start to feel ‘I am more than this’ We start to feel uncomfortable in our spirit that we should be higher than where we are. Until there is that desire and restlessness, a change of level is unlikely to come. We see the example in the children of Israel while in Egypt, after a while they cried out to God because they were frustrated. Hannah, Jacob, Jabez all got tired of the status quo and cried out to God. That restlessness is what drives us into the place of prayers. Hunger for change will drive us into the place of travail. Again we see that in the lives of Nehemiah and Daniel. Those 2 ingredients are a must really for a change of level.

After Prayers, usually instructions will come. and those instructions may sometimes lead to a change of assignment. In our text today; God told Elijah to stay at the brook Cherith. Ravens were commanded to feed him and he was to drink from the brook. But because the famine persisted and there was no rain, eventually the brook itself dried up. Elijah ideally should have been frustrated and start to ask questions: Did God not tell him to go to the brook? So why did it dry up? Could God not do a miracle to sustain the brook? But like we said: Life is in seasons, and season are subject to change and with change comes the next level. God had decided it was time for Elijah to leave Cherith and go to Zarephat. Why? because God had a widow in mind at Zarephat that needed to sustained by the unction and grace on the life of Elijah. So God gave a new instruction, the assignment changed, God sent Elijah to Zarephat.

As we are praying, don’t be surprised at new instructions, new ideas and new directions. It’s part of what is required for the next level.
