THIRST FOR PURPOSE
In our discussion on the pursuit of God, we have been talking on 7 different things we need to be thirsty for. And we would be focusing on thirst for purpose today.
What is purpose?
It’s simply the overriding reason, (the chief or main reason) why God made each of us.
We all have a general purpose which is love, serve, worship, fellowship with God.
We also all have individual purpose which is bespoke to you. And that is why God allowed you to come from the country you originated from. It’s the reason he allowed you to emerge from your family. The individual purpose has to to do with his specific agenda or plans for you as a person.
Every man was created for God’s pleasure. So both our general and individual purpose was created to fulfill God’s desire. You were not created for yourself, rather you were created for him. You were not created to exist by yourself, rather you were designed and wired to always need his help. You were not designed to come up with your own agenda, rather your fulfillment and satisfaction lies in discovering his plans for you and then following them. So man was designed to fulfill purpose and ideally since that’s why we are here, we should be very hungry and thirsty to fulfill our assignment.
When an ambassador is sent to a foreign country, he / she is sent to represent his home country. That ambassador is no there to enjoy or do his /her own thing. The ambassador is there primarily for the assignment of his / her country. Jesus was very thirsty to fulfill purpose. He did not want die full. He wanted to leave empty and completely fulfilled. That showed in his thoughts, words and action
John 2: 17
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
Jesus had zeal for purpose. He knew he was here on assignment. It’s good to enjoy, have fun, travel on holiday, do all sort of things we want to do. But in the middle of all these, we must seek to understand God’ s purpose for our lives and follow it. Jesus said: My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
What is your drive? or what drives you? Purpose needs to become a major driver of our lives….
