THIRST FOR FELLOWSHIP
April 24, 2020

The Word: 1 John 1: 3 (KJV)

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Dig Deeper1 John 1: 6 -7(KJV)

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

THIRST FOR FELLOWSHIP
The word fellowship means companionship, togetherness or association.
The Greek word for fellowship is ‘Koinonia’. It means:
– Communion, sharing things in common.
– Being in agreement with one another
– Being united in purpose.

Christian fellowship is two dimensional:
1 – Our fellowship with the father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit
2 – Our fellowship with our fellow man

Fellowship is something we should be thirsty or have a desire for. If we have no desire or are not looking forward to our personal time with God then there is something wrong. If we have no desire for fellowship with our fellow Christians, it also means something is not right. Do we look forward to our church fellowship? If not, something is not right.

What does fellowship entail:
1. Being of thesame mind or purpose. Unless we have similar values, similar likes or dont’s, we would only be tolerating each other. We will not be able to fellowship effectively if we don’t enjoy each other’s company. For there to be fellowship, there must be something in common. This is central to fellowship. It is the bedrock, the fundamentals, the prerequisite of fellowship. Unless there is a common ground, how can we fellowship and discuss together. In other to grow our fellowship with God, It is simple, we need to discover and embrace what is important to God. That is the first thing.

2. Spending time with one another. Once we have a common purpose, We must now endeavour to spend time in fellowship with God and other God wants me to spend time with him. I must intentionally create time to spend with God. If I am not intentional, it won’t happen. I must prioritise spending time with God above other things. A relationship where time is not spent together will die a natural death. If we don’t communicate or spend time with each other, we grow apart. Fellowship is necessary for every healthy relationship

Our memory verse for June 2018

Psalm 42: 1

As the deer panteth after the water, so my soul pants after you O God.

Let’s take a few moment to learn our memory verse for this month by heart. It can be memorised in 2 lines:
Line 1:  As the deer panteth after the water
Line 2: so my soul pants after you O God.

Once you say it a few times it will stick.

Prayer focus: Our next level prayers:
Lord help me to thirst for your fellowship
