THE DISCIPLE – FOLLOWING IN PRAYERS
April 24, 2020

The Word: Mark 1: 35(KJV)

35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, He went out and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

Dig Deeper: Luke 6: 12  (KJV)

12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

Think about it

FOLLOWING IN PRAYERS
We have been talking about learning to follow Jesus. We can be taught. We can learn to follow him, if we are willing. Our willingness is really the key. If our willingness is enough, we will be motivated to take necessary actions.

Matthew 11:28 – 29

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Any believer who is willing to learn, can be taught to follow Jesus. When we become born again, our spirit man is reborn like a baby. Just like babies learn, our spirit man be trained by exercise on discerning between is evil and what is right. Let’s talk about learning to pray:

Luke 11: 1
1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

If you want to develop the burden for prayer, the heart for supplication, the hunger for fellowship, the desire for God’s presence, the burden for intercession, the empathy for others, one of the simplest you can do is to ask the Lord: TEACH ME TO PRAY. I’d like that to be our heart cry around this time. When we go to learn driving, the tutor teaches us the different controls but we will still need to take the driver’s seat and drive. It’s thesame with learning to ride bikes, we can be taught but we must still practise it to learn it. There are things in prayers that can only be caught…. How do you guage the mood, the presence, the need of the father? How do you know when to just continue in worship, when to be silent and when to supplicate? I believe the Holy Spirit wants to enrol us in the school of prayers. Could you please go back to him and ask again: LORD TEACH ME TO PRAY. Is that really your desire? If it is then the Holy Spirit will start to inspire you on the how when you come into the place of prayers.

Nuggets:
Who best to teach us than the best teacher himself, I’d like to be re-taught the art of prayer

Our memory verse for March 2018
Luke 9: 23

23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Let’s take a few moment to learn our memory verse for this month by heart. It can be memorised in 3 lines:
Line 1:  And he said to them all,
Line 2If any man will come after me, let him deny himself,
Line 3and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Once you say it a few times it will stick.

Prayer focus: Our next level prayers:
Lord please teach me prayers again in your own way….
